Sixty-seven years ago, my grandfather, Orville, gave this mother-of-pearl locket to my grandmother, Mickie, on the occasion of their eighth anniversary. The inscription reads "Mick form Orv, 8 Anniv." This was during World War II -- and they were still struggling to make their paychecks last to the end of each week! I'm not sure what was in the center of the flower originally, but for their 40th anniversary, he added the ruby. :-)
Their lives were complicated, and they had more than their share of hard times...but they adored each other. They've both been gone now for many years. But I do enjoy looking at this locket, a symbol of their love.
